Increasingly feels like doing pair programming when you're not in control of the mouse & keyboard (even if you literally are here). I catch bugs and other issues before running the code a lot and sometimes have differing takes about architecture, but it's so good at understanding what I want.
2 1Yeah, exactly, it's made coding so much less grindy. I'm sure AI will eventually become incredible at everything, but it's kind of nice that it puts more emphasis for now on understanding what makes code good as a skill than ability to churn out lots of code.
1 1Probably will make junior dev jobs fewer and further between, though.
At one of my first jobs, I was promoted from junior to mid-level dev only a couple of months in, and it was just because I was grinding away so much at a bunch of tickets that Copilot could've knocked out of the park in seconds.

yeah grunt work that copilot eliminates is kinda the foothold that juniors used to understand how large software project work and fit together. If you were starting now, I’d worry you wouldn’t have the chance to obtain the deeper understanding of things
