I'm going to go with the compromise solution - let users choose when they click their first link! thanks @blowdart.me for coming up with this idea
Action sheet:
Open this link in the in-app browser?
Your choice will be saved, but can [sic] change this later in the settings

Open using the in-app browser

Open new tab in your default browser

Cancel

poll: should this be enabled by default (spoilers: it's 100x nicer than being kicked out to the web browser)
use in-app browser setting option

I like that idea. Usually you don’t honing the settings all the time to check for new options. Also: If you ever have analytics on this. I’d love to hear what actual users select. I’m in favor of the SFViewController, but heard many people complaining about that, so I’m unsure now 😅

Nit picks Spelling - *changed Phrasing - The dialog title isn't consitent with the choice, perhaps "How would you like to open web sites?"

seem people have very strong opinions so if I forced a choice on them initially, I don't think it would be appreciated

Fwiw even though I would hate it originally, if I was immediately offered a way to disable it I would be forgiving. At least I wouldn't need to dig around for settings.

That’s what I was thinking. What I really want is for it to open Firefox, but I think iOS makes that impossible, so, not knowing what I want instead, experiencing a suggested default would let me decide if I liked it. Ux is hard.
