What’s the least pain in the ass way to host redis+a websocket listener server? fly.io?

If you want to scale, fly.io is a great option but you need to think more about your architecture. But do not use their hosted Redis (powered by upstash), it's slow and expensive. And be aware of how much bandwidth you need. The least pain in the ass is just setting everything up on one VPS

yeah I’ve learned my lesson with upstash (via Vercel) I’m worried about scaling (or at least, I think I should be worried). I feel so out my depth here lol I’m a div centerer at heart

I think I'm gonna try Hetzner soon, because I'm running out of disk space and it seems much cheaper than the Swiss one I'm using (€5 for 40 GB or 80GB from €8-9, vs. €12 for 40 GB now, + 20 TB bandwidth vs. 3 TB)… What about the ARM instances, have you tried those?

I'm running binaries compiled on my local dev machine on the VPS, so using a different architecture would make that a lot more painful. So from my limited experience with the ARM ones I would say they are better value, but make sure your software can run there.

DigitalOcean always seems to be like the best option in my opinion. The core products price is extremely reasonable and any managed service (such as Redis) doesn’t cost too much above the underlying resources you use.
