Nostr has options in a few apps where you can pick your translation server, paid vs free. Might be worth exploring? Takes the API load off of you. This SS is from Damus.

Yeah I’ve considered that - might do it so free users can paste in their own key

I really suck at knowing what stats are relevant here, but £200 predicted costs divided by somewhere between 6k to 10k monthly active users goes to a very small number

The infrastructure needed for notifications isn’t free You tend to go from a serverless setup to computing instances quickly and beyond your free dev account super fast

No it’s not - well, it’s the AppView that pushes notifications to the official app, but 3rd party apps are gonna have to do something else

And this is a third party app. Bluesky notifications would open the Bluesky official app would they not?

Afaik no: they push the notifications to the APN/FCM servers that in turn push the notification to the devices. I’ve submitted a PR against Graysky to implement notifications (and it works using expo’s notification service), so I’m interested by this discussion.

The token used to identify the device is created by the app (Bluesky or Graysky), so I guess the notifications will target the correct app

Now, Bluesky servers may filter notifications to tokens issued from their official clients, but we can’t tell

wait you're paying for translations? I assumed the cost was the reason the official app kicks me out to the Google translate app

Is there a way to open Apple Translate? or is it only accessible with the 'Translate' option if you select all the text
