I wish this was possible in React Native 😭

In the nearish future it will be. Expo modules are slated to *soon* support SwiftUI.

I've been playing with them for a bit now, mainly through submitting expo SDK PRs. Being able to add native code using Swift or Kotlin over....😬obj-c....is awesome. Once the SwiftUI support lands (hopefully SDK 50?) things will be great!

I’m so hyped! Gonna cull so many shitty js-based dependencies :)

Oh yea, it’s been possible. But the expo-modules API simplifies things considerably, and is renderer agnostic so you support fabric out of the box.

Actually seeing a lot of libraries convert to using expo modules over trying to maintain both JSI support and turbo/fabric.

I mean I *can* make a drawer menu easily. I just mean I wish I could make a native NavigationSplitView

It's almost what I'm doing for the post composer in deck.blue, I'm using a Row with the Rail (the icons), then the expandable composer, then the horizontal list of columns Wouldn't that work for you too?

Yeah probably - I just wish I could do it natively. NavigationSplitView gracefully converts into this on small screens with zero extra config needed

I thought about using NavigationSplitView when starting Skeets, but decided against it since I personally didn’t want the extra step of having to select the feed before you can view it. So I’ll just go with a separate view hierarchy on larger displays. But yeah…it can save you from a lot of work :)

Ahh, got it; then Flutter doesn't have a built-in component for that too but it's not that complicated to replicate it

yeah it wouldn't be too bad. I feel like I'm just reaching the point in RN where if I want something done I need to do it from scratch I'd probably feel the same about swift if I was good at it lol

oof, that's a bit sad Flutter has A LOT of built-in options and you can use composition to get to custom results, and if you need something specific you can just copy the most similar widget's code and adapt it to your needs This is something I would miss so much in Swift

Yeah I’m loving all the stuff built into swift. Something like a picker is so easy compared to react native Conversely, making a typesafe api call with proper loading states and fallbacks and stuff is 1000x easier in React Native, so I’d be hard-pressed to give that up
