Just the one feature makes for an unappealing sales pitch, at the same time getting the first premium mobile client (as far as I know) would seem to me to be the overriding concern.
Actually screw it, just the one killer feature with a noncommittal suggestion of future work and the civic understanding that funding development is a good in itself would be better than a poorly-thought through whimsical extra you may later regret
If you come up with a really good idea for extra features down the line, there will be plenty of new users to come who will see that value proposition at the perfect time for them. If you rush something now with muddied motivations you’ll kick yourself for committing to something you may yet regret.
You could do like Apollo, have $1/$2/$3/$5/$7 tiers for people that want to support you and later add features to the higher tiers as you're going
I started the Patreon with just multi-account and now added scheduling
Indeed, but I received feedback that people just wanted a quick way to support the project, so I just added the lower tiers
I would like to have just two too, but people like to have options
How’s that working out for you? This is the first I’ve heard of Patreon subscription tied to an external service provision, feels very exotic and unorthodox to me.
I saw it first in backloggd.com!
It's working pretty well, I wish Patreon had a better API but it works. Patreon is safely covering all server costs for deck.blue and scheduling wasn't a big hit on the monthly bill (as of now, 1 week in), and the platform itself gives me a way to talk with everyone
That latter aspect — some reification and canonicity to updates & roadmap — sounds very appealing. The way you announce updates on here feels very solid and reassuring too, I imagine there’s some influence to that.
Yes, it's pretty nice to have a place where I can post the updates and other things such as the scheduling FAQ too
There's also DMs with the patrons if they have any issues, and I can group them by tier to ask questions or send notices, it's pretty cool to have all that built-in
