Happy birthday to every horse in the northern hemisphere! 🥳🎂

“their birthday is standardised for comparison due to a historical lack of records of the actual birth date” but it’s very stupid cause then you’re like “they’re a young 5” (???)

also horses are generally born between January and April apparently (hence why it’s different for the southern hemisphere)

But then they would have to deal with leap years. We just don't have the technology

Oh okay this is only for fast horses. If your horse is lazy it can have a real birthday. This is just physics. As a horse approaches the speed of light its birthday becomes Jan 1 because it's not experiencing time

Only the Jockey Club registered TBs. My lipizzan gelding celebrates his birthday on May 17.

And then only really for the purposes of sorting races by horses of the same age. My Thoroughbreds all get their actual born-on day celebrated.

Horse people like traditions. Also the horse’s age is a factor in which races they are allowed to run. For example the Kentucky Derby is only run by 3 year old horses. (I am surrounded by horse farms here…)
