I especially loved the use of the old school Godzilla theme. Intense. But also for a good portion of the film it feels like a different kind of movie entirely. It’s got such heart.
I loved it, for sure. The stakes were obviously huge but also they managed to make the stakes really personal, too. Refreshing after all the Hollywood ones
I loved how it brought the origin of Godzilla back to the point of that trauma for Japan, the very end of the war and the human devastation that followed. It reminded me how so many western audiences hadn’t picked up on that allegory in the 50s, but it’s inescapable now.
Also in the very first scenes, there’s the warning; the elders know and understand this threat, but it mutates and becomes something much worse, just around the time the war ends and the first nukes drop.
