the real idea though isn’t to limit them but rather have the logic to properly group them, so the device receives all of them but the single notification just updates the like count or whatever

I feel that would need deeper involvement from the AppView to be feasible (cause then you can get the real unread count)

Yea that would definitely be helpful. I know my original idea was to keep cached the number of notif a user and that post had received in x seconds, but it’s a bit more work

I guess the issue with maintaining your own unread state is clearing it etc, but I guess that’s still doable In fact with the redis-based rate limiting I just set up it would be pretty easy

Like you can add the post id for the “group id” and it will handle it appropriately (I’m pretty sure this worked when I was sending some test notifications)
