Reminder that even if you hate features we add (and by that I mean GIFs), a core principle is that you’re able to curate your experience and “control your scroll”! Go subscribe to @nogifsplease.bsky.social and it’ll be like they were never added at all

How about if you set GIF to default "off" and opt-in, so those of us with epilepsy do not have to remember set it to "off" first every time we open the browser? This is an accessibility issue. On the other hand software engineers usually don't seem to care about people with epilepsy or migraines.

We respect the prefers-reduced-motion browser setting and disable autoplay automatically if you have it on

When I open my browser, it automatically defaults to "ON" every time, regardless of where I set it.

hmm, there was unfortunately a brief period where it would default to autoplay and the setting will have persisted from then, but going forward the default value will be taken from prefers-reduced-motion unless you're saying the that the setting is not being saved?

The setting is not being saved. It seems to depend on saving a cookie in my browser. My browser automatically delete cookies on closing the browser (or it's just programmed wrong).

yes, it's saved in you're browser's local storage, so if you've got it set to clear every time it will obviously reset. however, if you turn on "Reduce motion" in your browser settings, it'll default to disabled autoplay
macOS settings

I've searched for "motion", and under Accessibility > Reduce motion I've enabled "Reduce motion"Incognito browser tab, where Disable autoplay is on by default

Until it's fixed, I'm going to have to default BlueSky to "don't use." It is a physical danger. The settings for the Website must be permanent. This is good accessibility practice. I'm not going to play roulette with my seizures or migraines.
