I think I watched that one 3x in theaters
contrasted with almost leaving during a bathroom break for episode 3 and feeling like I should have never seen episode 9
Adam Driver was great. A Heath Ledger Joker-like performance that tricks you into thinking the rest of the movie is as good.
That said, it was the only sequel or spinoff that had anything interesting to say about Star Wars or in moving away from endless self reference.
I love it.
Eh, it's a bold movie but a lot of the contrarian-ness of it also makes it kind of a bad movie as a whole. Also the whole Canto Bight sequence from end to end feels extremely forced.
I was admittedly never a huge Star Wars fan (🖖🏻), but the way the series made such a show of pulling back the progress that was made during TLJ just completely turned me off the entire franchise.
Bold opinion.
I find it fine at best. Behind the Original Trilogy but with plenty of redeeming factors, equal to Revenge of the Sith, might I add.
....Well surely that's a perfectly fine opiion I have and not an equally contentious one.
As someone who felt mixed about the movie, at the very least it left the story in a much more interesting direction that had untold potential for the future of the franchise... and then Palpatine came back to life in Fortnite and it just turned into "RoTJ, but Worse"
Better than Rogue One! (Which I felt had such a messy plot and overall felt like a shoe-horning exercise, and am continually astonished at its popularity) 😛
I wish one director could have done all three sequel movies, and I wish it could have been Rian Johnson. The Last Jedi was the best of the three, and it really felt like he and Abbrams were fighting each other over major plot points, and the movies suffered because of it. There was no unified plan.
The backlash and flight after a major victory
The unexpected mentor
The offer from the dark side
The shocking family revelation
The untrustworthy stranger offering hope and help in a dream-like faraway city
The rebels trapped in their base on a white planet by massed attack.
It’s the same basic movie, with a few bits moved around, and every reveal “subverts your expectations”.
It’s just as much a rip off of ESB as TFA was of ANH.
And honestly I’m surprised more people don’t notice because it was super-duper intentional.
How do you have a hyperspeed chase occurring, but then have characters on the ship being chased shoot off to another planet and then come back while the chase is still ongoing? Like, how is that possible?
The obstacle the Resistance faced was that they only had enough fuel for their capital ships for one more jump, but had realised the First Order would be able to use hyperspace tracking to follow them through the jump anyway. Probably why 'hyperspace' jumps out as the relevant term in your memory?
I swear I thought it was a hyperspace chase as they were running out of hyperspace fuel, and the shot of the canto byte team leaving the ship was them blasting off into another hyperspace stream. I did only see it once.
