interesting. should be technically possible? I think Threads is still only one way federation?

tbh i think its certainly worth making the case that people on threads who turn on federation have already given consent to be able to be visible on bluesky as well if you take threads optin flow, it talks about being visible on the fediverse, in a way that can also include bsky imo

Well, as of now, on Threads you’re unable to follow any Fediverse accounts, so you technically can’t follow the bridge fed mastodon account. I’m not sure if it’ll ever be 2 way, following threads people from mastodon (already a thing) & vice versa

If I understand Laurens correctly, I think he’s saying that theoretically Snarfed could just automatically enable bridging Threads accounts to Bluesky without waiting for the follow, since they kind of already indicated they want to be bridged *somewhere* from Threads?

Ohh that’s good Why is it opt-in for Mastodon users then, but not for Threads? & also is it only working for Threads accounts that are federated?

Lmaoo Seriously why do Mastodon users not like it so much? I see so many problems with ActivityPub & I barely know that much about it

Not all Mastodon users, just some loud enough subset (that hates to be called a „loud minority”)… there’s this constant struggle on the Fediverse between different factions (I think this is called „big fedi” and „small fedi”?), where some want to connect everything, and some want isolated islands

Because for years they got used to their part of the Fediverse working along their cultural norms that are more strict, very safety- and privacy- focused, and they see connecting widely with everything as danger

Still it’s annoying. It’d be nice to truly just have 1 account for it all, also what can they do? What would actually happen if Ryan enabled it for all and it was opt-out? Out of curiosity 🤔

so now we're getting a double opt-in. but i can very much understand if @snarfed.org does not want to deal with another dumb situation again either tho lol
