the website: please please please download our app please please please please
the app: oh shit didn’t think that’d actually work. what the heck do we do now?? screw it, webview time
"Please, our marketing team really really wants to be able to send you push notifications" is like most of these apps. I'm convinced that marketing and advertising is the main push for mobile over web for a lot of services.
I mean... I'd LOVE to use the dedicated app, but it doesn't work in landscape orientation at all last time I checked and I literally don't own a portrait-orientation device. XD
Yes, and there's no rational benefit of app over web.
BlueSki has no business messing with hardware, or Address Book etc.
Web is a safer model, easier to code too.
So we get websites that are only a few kb big, don't pester me for location, notifications or cookie permissions and don't support auto playing video ads? I think that would actually improve the experience a lot...
Followed by "oops, our app doesn't handle this particular feature, go to the website to do that" with the website throwing all phone browsers to the app/play store.
it's a webview but it constantly tracks your location with no opt out and sends you marketing notifications in the same channel as actually important ones
