all I want is a code editor that lets you view code with whatever prettier config you like, but which commits a version with a standardized config to git

NickNot the first time I’ve heard this idea and actually 100% possible I think using git hooks
There are lots of lifecycle hooks, I bet you can run a format on checkout and a different format on commit
