Yes, but I just now found the issue was my NordVPN “threat protection” being turned on, which is the default. This is a new thing starting within the last few days.
Thank you for the reply. Here’s the reddit thread where I found the solution.
www.reddit.com/r/BlueskySoc...
I posted a cute video of my dog happily swimming while wearing a little life vest, and the video was labeled as 'corpse.' I understand the moderation is automatic, but if you could review this, Yves (my pup) would be very happy.
Would be very good to normalise volume as part of the encoding step - a target of -14 LUFS would make it roughly consistent with YouTube (but anything that’s the same for all vids will work as long as you remember the user volume setting)
In Firefox, I can only receive audio (for a short duration) from recently* posted videos after clicking on their progress bar. This issue does not occur in Chrome, for example.
Demonstration video (I unintentionally captured my mic audio, but it's barely noticeable):
It seems to happen only with devices connected through Bluetooth. I've tested three devices without success, but after connecting one of them to the USB port, the issue goes away.
A wired headphone also worked with my work PC (unfortunately it is not possible to test Bluetooth there).
It's not a bug but more than a suggestion:
Please separate the option between Stop autoplay on videos and gifs
I really don't want videos autoplaying, but I still want the GIFs doing that.
No problem. I tried waiting a few minutes and it didn't seem to like it (maybe I needed to wait longer than 5 minutes?). Trying with another video it seems like it's working on Firefox again.
I was making a couple of other tests and it looks like the sound stays for just a few seconds, like there’s delay on stopping the video after you leave the page
I noticed that when I start a video and continue scrolling the timeline, the sound of the video is in the background. I can't post the video of this error, but I will soon.
i'm still having a video resetting to 0:00 when leaving fullscreen issue, but it only happens if i'm watching a video on the timeline and not if i'm in the specific skeet page (win 11 chrome latest)
Reporting a video bug! (1/2)
Recently, videos have been having a slight audio glitch whenever the video is 3-ish seconds away from finishing. The audio stops for a split second.
This happens for my videos and others’ videos. Viewing videos on the app, Safari and Firefox are the same.
Example ⬇️
Here's the Cat Canada and Jaycee animation in case you're too lazy to click a YouTube link!
Animated by Scribghetti-Junction: scribghetti-junction.tumblr.com!
Here’s an animation of Cat Canada and Jaycee by scribghetti-junction: scribghetti-junction.tumblr.com
Yes, this is actually what Jaycee is supposed to sound like!
Android 14 (Fairphone 5G), app 1.91.0.307
Sometimes, backing out of a video while it's paused causes the app to stop responding to input & the video keeps playing.
Now, I have a recording of it that I would _love_ to share, but, y'know. There's a nuance.
(I'll make a Github issue if you'd like!)
idk if it's a bug but, when I'm listening music and some video starts, my music stop and don't return when the video finishes...
that's a little bit annoying.
I'm using android and listening from Spotify btw.
Quickly tested here, on Android, same behavior on Twitter and Bsky.
Spotify stops playing once video audio starts and does not resume after you stop with the video
Today I started getting the:
> An error occurred while loading the video. Please try again.
I'm running Firefox 139.0.4.
Video playback works fine in Edge <shudder>, but interestingly Chrome fails too.
I'm on OpenSuse.
This video I’ve posted has suddenly stopped working (for everyone that I’ve asked about it).
bsky.app/profile/flam...
On iOS I get “An error occured while loading the video.” and on computer it’s “Video not found.”
Does the bsky Android app always proactively download videos on the feed even if you have Autoplay disabled? I'm traveling/roaming and bsky has used a couple hundred megs of data, I don't have good baseline data to compare to tho.
If so, a "don't auto load on cellular" option/default might be good
I realized what it was: on *desktop* I have Autoplay disabled, but that's not synced on the *app*, so I was getting autoplayed videos.
Turned that off.
Still, since Autoplay is default on, it would probably be good to be careful on cell data.
Thanks! Android doesn't let me get a usage graph per-app, so it was hard to tell if bsky specifically had used more data than normal.
I have an okay roaming plan so it wasn't a huge deal for me, but just something I was thinking of.
Thanks for the confirmation!
(I realize you're not actively monitoring but) trying to post a video from my iphone and got a "could not process this video" message (on desktop; on mobile it just hung on "processing your video"); see video metadata below.
As a filmmaker, painter & photographer, it’s dismaying that I cannot access any videos - or any still images - that are on my desktop drives. BlueSky only allows me to access the Cloud or to cut & paste from YouTube, not from drives. Also, on a desktop BlueSky’s window is the size of a cellphone.
Hi @samuel.bsky.team I would like to know if at some point we will be able to quote only the video and incorporate it into my post. It was a very popular function
In Brazil we had accounts dedicated to be a "collection" of memes, so that other people could use videos in their posts
I saw some people here in Brazil talking about the possibility of autoplaying only videos, leaving the GIF. The option we have today only allows you to stop autoplay of both at the same time
Hey, just came across this post when trying to find help for this issue.
I have been unable to post any screen recorded (on mobile) videos in the Android app. I can post videos recorded with my phone and unedited, just no screen recordings for some reason.
Friendly hi! Each time I've tried adding webvtt closed captions to a video, the captions display earlier than when they're supposed to. bsky.app/profile/fros...
Maybe this is an opportune time to say "I've attempted recording more stuff for a future Resonite video, but my brain's been too smooth to come to a final edit." We'll see something someyear, I'm sure.
hi im on the android version and some videos i try to upload just immediately error out while others upload fine with no "error occured during compression" issue
thank u
@samuel.bsky.team maybe I'm a bit late on this thread, but I found a small bug. At least for me (latest version of the app and using Android), in the post linked below, the preview video doesn't respect the aspect ratio of the original video:
bsky.app/profile/folh...

On some videos (like this one: bsky.app/profile/inst...) I only hear sound for a fraction of a second and then the sound is gone. Doesn't matter where in the video I hit play, it's always a short sound and then silence.
Video play in the background even when leaving apps, and there's no notification bar when it do this. Usually on another app, even when video accidentally play in the background, you can pause it through notification bar. I already updating my app on lastest version and still happening. Android
So if I muted a video from this app, and leaving this app open, the video probably still playing and I would never noticed it happened and slowly drain my battery
First of all, thank you for the hard work of the entire bsky team! But I'm experiencing a bug. Most videos only play sound for a fraction of a second when I click play or drag to another position, muting and unmuting does nothing the video stays without sound. Platform is Windows 10, Firefox.
I assume this is a bug because it's different on the web browser and on the app.
If auto-play is off on mobile, you still have to manually turn on the sound, that does not happen on the web browser
not sure if this is some sort of dodgy video driver that needs to be updated on my laptop but very frequently when scrolling bsky, GIFs cause it to do this. it’s not even this quick a lot of the time, sometimes it can be a black screen for longer and it’s so annoying.

My video posted _as_ I was typing in alt text. I must have accidentally clicked for it to post before going into the alt text modal (I remember thinking it was neat you could type alt text while the video processed), but once I was in that modal it should have aborted the actual posting process.
Probably already reported by many, but while i can upload videos on desktop, it is not showing up the button to do so, i can only do it by draggin the video on top of it.
The video button is showing up on mobile.
hi, hello, i got this one as soon as my app started showing the button, i tried restarting a couple times and using only files in the default recent videos instead of going through my gallery but it persisted
both screenshots relate to the same file, the other videos i tried didn't show a number
Ah! Play a video, switch on sound. Switch over to your "Discover" tab, or any other list that you have. Video keeps on playing, looped. If you then press "Home" you'll go back to your 'following' feed, but the video still pays, looped.

Évidemment qu'en première vidéo partagée par ici, j'ai opté pour du contenu canin.
Voici donc une de mes vidéos préférées de l'histoire des internet avec du very goodboi dedans.
Regardez comme il est fier.
I've had a number of partial uploads that were cancelled out during waiting in queue for backend processing; still counted towards daily limits
idk if there's a callback when users do such, or whether this should be considered a bug
I just wanted to know if there is any possibility to embed the video? For example, copy the link of a post and paste it into my post, so that the video is reposted as if it were my own post
I have autoplay disabled. It is very frustrating to start play and then also have to unmute; a lot of videos have sound from the very start that I miss. This appears to be working as designed, but is a UI infelicity.
My clips ain't ain't clopping @pfrazee.com . Tried uploading a 48.4MB .mp4, it ain't happy but it doesn't tell me why. Would the video codec have any impact?
Why can't I post videos of Meli (my favorite dog) dancing? I didn't have any problems posting other videos, but every time I try to post a video of him, it gives an error!
So I'm able to upload and post video on iOS, Chrome, and Edge, but not on Firefox (which is what I mostly use Bluesky on). Any idea what's going on there?
Bug? When I put the video in full screen, it activates the sound and when I exit full screen the video automatically mutes. This happens both when pressing the player button and when using "ESC". I'm using the Web version
found another glitch. uploading videos with this codec/specifications cause endless conversion status during upload:
I simply converted a MOV to a MP4 using handbrakeCLI
HandBrakeCLI -Z "Very Fast 1080p30" -i "Repeat Item (File Path)" -o "...file name and path goes here..."
allright, I just rewrote this using ffmpeg as it is more reliable:
ffmpeg -i "...input file..." -vf "scale=-1:1080,fps=30" -c:v libx264 -crf 23 -c:a aac -b:a 128k "...output file"
and the video conversion goes smoothly!
nope, not the frame rate. I just tested it with another handbrake-encoded video that had 30fps as well and it still got stuck in conversion...hope you can find the culprit! please DM me if you need video samples
I had a problem once when I was watching a video on my phone, and when I closed the video, it would still play in the background but muting and bringing the volume back up repeatedly every millisecond.
It would also not let me click in another post, only fixed it when I closed the app.
I fullscreened it and unfullscreened it once but then the bug happened.
I would show the video of the bug happening but the video update didn’t reached my area yet.
And then again, it happened like one time, it could be a rare glitch or something.
all my videos are muted by default, with autoplay on. is it suppose to be like that?
firefox on fedora. i checked to make sure firefox allows autoplaying audio
Hey Samuel.
Bug report -
Device - Honor 90 (Android 14)
When videos are playing and you press the home button to refresh the feed, audio continues to play in the background (where this should stop) and will keep doing so.
Clicking on a person's profile did stop it.
@samuel.bsky.team, additional information.
Any video which audio gets stuck in the background, is active and in view on the feed before pressing the Home button.
Also, if I click on a video and watch it and then move on to looking at other things, the sound of the video I watched can still play in the background.
for me the audio stops, so I thought of using the pop out function - thinking while video plays i can scroll down and check comments... the player stops.
Some videos take a long time to open on the timeline. And my internet is good!
(I still don’t have the update to post videos. This is about the videos that are already circulating on the screen)
Another bug. When I try to open the video by clicking on your post, nothing happens.
When I open your post (which has video), it looks like you posted an image and not a video
A bug(?) related to heavy server use: when I Ctrl-V pasted a URL, the slim card rectangle thought for a second and then said, in red text, "Operation Aborted" The card came up normally after I deleted the text and tried again.
If that's normal under heavy load, great! If not, you have a data point.
I don’t know if it’s a bug but it’s kinda annoying that I have to tap twice on a video for it to go full screen. Clicking/taping once only makes it play.
Also, when I close a full screen video it keeps playing.
