fwiw, I played the demo, went "oh, this is pretty magic, I can see how people could get really into this" and then never got the full game. all the satisfaction of being right about a popular thing early on, none of the bleary lost weekend to a compulsive videogame.

My perspective is that it's an addictive game that speaks to the monkey brain, but it's not actually fun. Way too random on "will this run win or bust" with no way to control it half the time. I don't like games where I lose and there's nothing I could have done differently to win.

Agreed! It differs from many other roguelites in that you will often not see a mistake that caused you to die. It's just how it was going to be. That's the only thing that saved me from a full-on addiction to it tbh. Still fun to try for a bit, still very fun when it gets going, but too reset-heavy

My take is slightly more hatefilled: There are some runs that are literally not winnable no matter how skilled you are, and that makes the game bad. You can play perfectly and lose because of rng.

i mean it's REALLY easy to rig a win on white stake but the moment you get to like black stake it gets really frustrating. the higher difficulties don't really feel that fun

It will take over a sizable chunk of your daily thoughts. And you’ll love it. Friends don’t let friends NOT play Balatro.

Yes! Though if you start playing you probably won't be able to stop for a while. It's that good.

Good question: are you going to have fifty hours of free time anytime soon? (note: they will be a very good fifty hours, but they will be consumed all the same)
Big Bad Aardwolf
I found it fun and worth the purchase, but extended play sessions tire me out in ways that other roguelikes don't.

Definitely get it. You’ll be addicted for a while and it’s a lot of fun, but then it sort of lacks the depth of say Slay the Spire to keep you going forever. Still, super fun for many hours and definitely worth getting
