I wonder, which of the two is more complex/costly for Bluesky servers? (Disregarding the delay) Or are both equivalent and the latter just takes longer to appear on timelines?

from a load perspective, they’re exactly the same, but for a client the UX is much better uploading directly: the video is available immediately when posting, and you can check the job status as it processes

While it's to be expected for this place to be yet another site that doesn't truly support GIFs (only video re-encodes of them), I wish one day we'll get a social network that takes a page out of imageboards and goes "if your media file fits within these specs, we will simply display it unaltered"
