ty, had to use breezewiki instead of antifandom (the latter seems to be getting 403s from fandom?) but this is already a marked improvement

fandom buying out wikia and turning it into a sad excuse for a social media site also lends itself to the internet's enshittification - there's so much we lost with fandom's new enforcements. there were entire wikis just wiped. they don't care about it being an informational database.

i used to work on a fairly big wiki back in the day and personally witnessed this transitional period. i'm really emotional about it really, bc me and the other volunteers worked so hard to make things accessible and accurate, and it's just.... all crumbled

if it's nintendo related, NIWA (nintendo independent wiki alliance) manages some of the best game wikis out there (mario wiki, bulbapedia, etc.)

Fandom (fka Wikia) entered other endeavors that it had to support monetarily; the ads support those other endeavors. It is also meant to be as palatable as possible to search engines.

I remember using the enter the gungeon gamepedia when learning that game in 2017/18. Found out recently it was bought out by fandom and that the well organised wiki i was used to has been reduced to terribly organised non detailed rubble. Fuck fandom fr.

some fandoms have wikis on mirahaze. critical role has one (encyclopedia exandria) and its great

wild that the owners of fandom . com are so absurdly greedy. they own basically every fan wiki ever, so their traffic oughta be absurd and a normal amount of ads should be more than enough to pay to run things. but I guess a CEO needs another yacht.

Most big fandom wikis have indie alternatives, and if they don't/the fandom wikis have more content you can always use indie wiki buddy to redirect to a front-end like antifandom or breezewiki

There are many extensions that redirect you to other wikis, antifandom, wikibreeze, etc. But if you're using ublock origin I can send you custom filters that remove everything that's unnecessarily. I hate fandom too, but I do this so I could read comments as well

Try Miraheze!! It's a Website that is very similar to Fandom, but it doesn't make your device work overtime to load it!! ^.^

just copy the url of any given page and replace “fandom” with “antifandom” ;)
jingles
yes, people can, but moving out of it is not that easy it would be very hard to transfer everything over to a different website
Ms. Katalee Flavour
From what I know fandom is inherently shit There are other wiki hosting sites that I personally think are better, like fextralife wikis and miraheze
Jared
This is what happens when you don't pay people. Most of the work on most of the wikis was done before Fandom bought it.
A Yellow Tiger
If they do, I'll help with a Sparking Zero wiki, I made one using fandom cuz I didn't know what else to use :v

FUSS IT! JABBA FANDOM, WHO’S WITH ME! LET’S JUST MAKE IT THE MOST BLINGED OUT WIKI YOU’VE EVER SEEN! LET’S MAKE SAMMY PROUD!

If you add “anti” in front of it (antifandom), all the ads disappear, and can switch to dark mode. But so does sometimes removes the formatting on small screens. So if you value information over aesthetics, antifandom is good. It also carries over to new links you click.

Is fandom really that bad? I once turned off my adblocker to have a look and there were a few ads, but nothing horrific. Am I just getting less ads than anyone else?

On mobile without adblocker it is basically unusable. Fullscreen ads that you have to scroll more than a whole screen through + header and footer ads + miniplayer video ads + popup ads literally all at once. Cant see the content and even if you get past the ads it makes the page so slow its a pain.
