upload endpoint now supports gifs so it just uploads this directly without doing any encoding in the app

oh interesting. am I right to infer that media live at the PDS on local filesystem storage rather than on a CDN or object-bucket service? do appviews proxy/cache so that a popular repost doesn't overwhelm an individual PDS?

the appview does have a cdn yeah, it'll cache whatever you have on your pds (which could either be local or s3)

How well does it handle gifs with variable frame timings? IIRC a common bug with such gifs after video conversion was that the last frame would play shorter than intended
