I'm all in favour of thoughtful critique and dialogue between the protocols, like @dustyweb.bsky.social 's thread from yesterday. I'm fediverse-first but Bluesky has really taken off among my non-tech friends so I'm paying attention.
I still think Mastodon, along with #ActivityPub, is a VERY good idea. But, sadly, it's because I'm a big fan of decentralization and sadly, it's a losing strategy.
Looking forward to it. I initially made the jump from Twitter to Mastodon, and I have some... opinions on it.
Only other people I've been able to discuss about it with have absolutely no idea about Mastodon or the Fediverse, or are deeply entrenched. Would definitely appreciate another perspective.
I'd definitely give it a read. Would love to see more good faith, technical discussion of the tradeoffs involved in Bluesky vs. Masto (and more broadly AT vs. AP)
