or have a setting so they can be hidden by default. occasionally there's good art or information in gifs but 95% are low effort replies taking up extra space
Is it just me or is the toolbar of the Bluesky mobile app too big?…
Might be another one of those things that makes people say "this app doesn't feel native" 🤔
Bluesky feature request: you should be able to leave up one post when you deactivate an account.
Would:
1) allow signposting to the correct account for deactivated/consolidated institutional accounts
2) forestall the what-just-happened drama texts etc when someone takes a break
Regional feeds? I'd love to be able to "Denver" or something like that and get recent posts from that region. It'd be handy during storms and what not.
thanks! I'd love to do more with regional feeds but unfortunately ATProtocol doesn't appear to support a location field so identifying people connected to the region is tough
i would prefer if profiles didn’t show a “following” count at all and instead a “number of lists” count and a person could see if they are in any of your lists rather than if you are “following” them
How long before someone launches a service to perform set algebra on feeds?
Given overlaps between:
A = Following
B = @why.bsky.team's Quiet Posters
C = @pfrazee.com's Discover
I'd love to be able to browse:
A - B ~= Noisy posters
C - A ~= Recommended
A ∩ C ~= Likely bangers

feature idea: reverse mute
hide your account from showing up in peoples’ feeds programmatically based on keywords in their bios, types of accounts they follow, or lists they are in, etc
On the mobile client ... on the first time someone attaches an image, prompt them about alt text and allow them to opt-out, not opt-in.
And then give the suggestion on how to copy text from images, depending on OS, in the alt text dialog - taking inspiration from
bsky.app/profile/blow...
ok ok ok now that I know they're supposed to be GOOD: custom feeds for notifications so you can set up a feed and get notifications for anything that pops up in that feed
I mean the feed infrastructure is mostly 3rd party, right? it's more that (I think? I dunno, I'm just some dummy) it'd have to interact with the app so that it could populate your notifications tab
but it would save bsky corp having to deal with power user/big accounts notification needs because, fine, set up (have somebody set up) a feed with the kind of thing you're interested in being notified of and now that's your notifs
semantic mute based on proximity to an exemplar embedding ("mute all posts similar to this")
same but for search
sort replies by entropy
augment the little blurb that shows who follows a person out of my followers with who their typical followers are
more feature ideas:
- mute people on individual feeds, but not globally
- mute people on feeds, but not in mentions (i like conversations with some folks, but don’t like their main posts)
- keyword muting on an account-level-basis (i.e. only muting the keyword when a specific user says it)
Clustering of related labels with option to expand. Context aware (non)display of labels (such as in-feed only, on the first post for each user within threads, etc). Option to ignore the existence of some labels from label services you subscribe to.
muted words needs to be its own lexicon, and you should be able to curate muted words lists and share them with others as part of a robust composable moderation system
bluesky should add an “email list” lexicon that allows anyone to “sign up” to a profile’s email list, thus allowing anyone to begin collecting subscribers for an email newsletter and directly competing with part of substack’s feature set
Proactive filter for showing only replies that come from a given list.
Usecase: I have a list called "people in my industry" and I only want to see replies to a skeet from people on that list.
Toggle either for all replies, or a quick toggle on an individual thread.
when i open bluesky, i’d like to see a number at the top of the screen that is an anonymized indicator of how many of my mutuals or followers are currently present
another feature idea: localized firehose feed
a feed that will display literally everything from the accounts i follow regardless of what i’ve muted, blocked, etc
sometimes i’m curious what i’m missing now that i have all these filters and self-moderation tools in place
Create a "donate to ban" button and when people have collectively donated more than a certain threshold the person is permabanned and their IP blocked. Better than ads or subscriptions, pure profit on day one.
create user groups/communities by adding user moderation to feed following. the feed admin creates a feed like usual, but following teh feed requires approval from the admin. Posts in the feed arent private but replies to posts will only be visible to members of the feed
When I hover over a username and I get the little hint bubble with basic info about a user & the follow button, I should also be able to mute them from there without clicking into their profile
themed app sessions
in the mood for sports? here’s all your sports feeds, following related to sports, Discover leans heavily toward sports here, any trending sports related topics, etc
in the mood for news? photography? etc etc.
plus have an all encompassing main one ofc
i want to be able to see all the replies to a post. but sometimes one reply has a million of its own replies and it turns into a whole side conversation that’s not relevant. i’d like to be able to collapse that convo so i can find where the other replies begin.
If the end of a post is just space separated hashtags, collapse the (e.g.) 3rd onwards with a “+X more” label in feeds. Show them still on individual post view. So in a feed, it might look like this:
#BlueskyPost#BlueskyIdea (+ 7 more)
I'd like to create a new list *or* moderation list on the fly while adding someone to it, and I would like a shortcut to lists from their comment (right now at most I can directly block from the comment)
Show the number of people *who I follow* who have already reposted/quoted a post, to help me decide whether to repost it myself. Maybe brackets after the total reposts?
A bulk list manager so I can see who I follow that isn’t on a list. And ideally whenever I follow someone I can tag them into a list so I don’t forget.
It feels like I’d be better off not using the following tab at all but at this point it would be a big undertaking without new tools or scripts
Reviewing how moderation lists work due to users abusing it and weaponizing it making malicious lists for harrasment, bullying and slander with some doing lists imputing things that are considered crimes
Alt text encoded into the image file itself, so Bluesky can both read it & save it for the future. Such a standard already exists, but I can't find it atm
Option to turn off posts from other feeds in the following feed. I have different feeds for a reason, I don’t want all my feeds inserted into following
I’d like to see a preference setting to allow/disallow embedded posts, separate from the “must be logged in to view” setting. Maybe another type of threadgate so it could be applied to individual posts.
Post notifications for individual posts and pages that you want to be notified for.
Users are able to like, comment or repost directly from the notification.
Native Blue Sky app themes and colorways.
Custom Blue Sky app designs and different colorway combinations for the app will add a cool and personal touch to everyone's Blue Sky experience.
Display tiny user icons stored as 20x20 netpbm black and white bitmaps available over DNS from _icon._atproto.username (or over HTTP from... some file).
This should just barely fit into the 500 byte answer limit for DNS, and it's textual.
local client storage for all those things that a distributed protocol makes hard to keep private like a note of WHY I blocked someone or the real name of a list I wouldn't want to use publicly (like 'reply guys I still want to see posts not replies from') *and* a button to save that and load it
Have a way to show a small map attached to any message, to point out where a video, a story or picture refers to, or a product, tourist attraction can be found.
I can do that... Where should I look first? ( Branch, probable similar components?) Can do a simple leaflet that allows you to select a point or a path in full screen and then shows the small map like a video.... Need to store up to 100 point coordinates (line string) in the database as with
A "touch grass" button, which just shows you a bluesky curated list of cute/calming pics that you can like and repost but can't reply to or quote
and there are subscription options in settings for what categories of touch grasses there are
"Follow thread" or "subscribe to thread." I want to be able to get notified if OP comes back and adds a new post to their thread next week or next month.
you should have 2 feeds side by side and for each post index when you scroll you can pick one you like better and it hyper personalizes your feed in real time from the firehose based on your preferences
