If I knew how to build a CDN that worked for this I probably would take a crack at it. Maybe more an Instagram thing with the quality & features of Flickr though?

That feels a little inefficient unless I’m misunderstanding how the CIDs work, wouldn’t that mean I’d have to pull the blob off the PDS twice? Assuming I stick with CF Images that is. Once for verification and again with transformations?

So pull the blob once, cache it forever? I suppose realistically the blob CID shouldn’t change over time…

yeah that’s kinda exactly the point of a CID. if the blob changes it’ll have a different CID

for something like this you probably wouldn’t need much bandwidth so you could host a caching lru proxy on a vps somewhere

well, starting out you wouldn’t need much bandwidth. later on you can migrate to like bunnycdn or 5cents or something

To be fair my playground project for it is built on Cloudflare currently but BunnyCDN is probably a decent shout

I’m a really stupid person, but also a really good UX designer. I wanna understand this whole federated network atproto thing but even the basics elude me. How start?

I mean if this talk about the impending AGI is real this stuff would all practically program itself and Bluesky could just be stewards over extensions to the security and decentralization of the protocol for a ... human-friendly technological future? Fingers crossed 🤞

I mean atproto doesn’t really exist in any practical sense, does it? You can do the whole domain verification shtick, but you can host your own server that can communicate over the protocol yet.

There are thousands of people hosting their own servers that are communicating over the protocol right now. You may have even interacted with some of them without knowing it.
