your outie likes engaging with create react app discourse despite not having touched it in several years

Samuel
your outie memoises components using let Component = () => { … } Component = React.memo(Component) rather than const Component = React.memo(() => { … }) Component.displayName = “Component”

Samuel
your outie still doesn’t understand how the CSS cascade works and covers it up by just using tailwind

Samuel
they work differently! always profile, RC isn’t just slapping React.memo on everything
Samuel
we still use yarn 1 at bluesky which is why it came to mind lol also I think they’re more supposed to be ambiguously positive but also slightly idiosyncratic and unique

you, me, and literally everyone else in these comments it seems lol. I only found out about it recently cause I was googling basic git commands 😭

when i first heard "hey you should use git switch" it was like, two years ago. and i was like "sorry i don't use newfangled commands until they make it into the distro package" and that's when i learn switch landed in august 2019. oops, lol

one personality defect of mine is that i don't think checkout is "five commands in one" or whatever, it's just one command. just horribly brain broken in the same way git was

Same. These comments had me googling use cases and now I’m like welp, been missing this.

git restore is new and “EXPERIMENTAL” too. Trying to create less overloaded alternatives to checkout

Learned years ago but breaking muscle memory is harder than it should be.

Samuel
it’s like several commands confusingly crammed into one so it’s been superseded by the more idiomatic git switch and git restore

Ok, but it realistically completes *one* task: checking out a new branch. Why would that even need to be multiple commands?
1 5
Samuel
because you can also use it to revert a file to given commit which is completely different, hence git restore

I can't tell if I love or hate this, but I 100% get your point now about using git switch
1 2
Samuel
yep, I mean I still use checkout lol but you can see why they want to split the command out into simpler ones

The git project needs to have a page that's just "The year is 2025, use these commands please" so I can stop being dumb :P

I'm gonna have some real old habits to break, I learned how to use the git CLI probably 6-7 years ago when I was still a dumb teenager and I still use it mostly the same way.......

Hey, I just learned git switch was a thing; I mean some things are muscle memory at this point

for what it's worth that's more CLI than the average developer knows, the "senior" dev at my place still manages to fuck up the most basic merges
MrCheeze
Your outie learned the modern commands instead of stubbornly sticking with the first thing they knew

git is legit what drove me out of software. I have never successfully merged *anything* without putting my repo in a state I can't recover from.

a) wtf is my outie b) once i learned git switch, i never looked back, underrated frfr

I just make multiple clones and use each full clone as its own unique branch and then manually copy and paste the changes back into the original clone and then push that after deleting .git and re-initialising. All my github repositories have only one commit. I look like a god of coding!
