Once I did a pull and refresh of prod because I misspelled create. I just told my supervisor I caught some spelling errors and was just fixing them. It should be noted that he reviewed the code and even did part of the work. We both didn't notice. It was someone else who called me.

To be fair, when you get a bunch of I's and L's together, it gets tough. I consulted with a firm in 2000 that had written "Illinois" for their address in all lower-case (trendy at the time.) They ignored spell-check because "lower-case." I told them that Illinois shouldn't have three L's.

I had this same moment a while back! I’m learning Spanish and saw that “help!” is “auxilio!” — thought “I wonder why they added an extra i in there” before double taking at auxiliary 😂

This is also how I learned about this. Spanish class in middle school. I got shuffled into German class after a couple weeks, but that was still long enough for us all to find 'weird' Spanish words and make fun of it because we were stupid kids.

There was a period in 2000-2005 where the word "Illinois" was misspelled with three L's on the certification sticker on Illinois gas pumps. I'm looking for the picture I took back then.

From Latin auxiliarius, which is from auxilium, meaning 'help'. I always look at the etymology of weird words to understand the "why" behind the structure and spelling. A bonus is that you see the roots elsewhere and can infer meaning in unfamiliar words more easily.
