here is a full completed thread about why Twitter doesn’t let you do emoji reactions to tweets, but does let you do it with DMs. hope yall enjoy, this was hell for me back in 2015 🙃
I've seen people's propensity for ludicrous amounts of labels, some folks are just predisposed to Elderly Person IE Toolbar Simulacra, I think
I'm on the side of "less clutter please" though lol
honestly, I think it'd be a great way to make bsky feel more human, and detract from the usual "engagement farming" style of traditional likes.
if the concern is UI clutter; I'd personally put them in a smol drawer under the post, and tidy the repost et al into a collapsible menu.
The "like" button is the pits: sometimes it means you like, sometimes agree, sometimes commiserate, and there's no way to indicate you disagree. I'd like those 4 options as a popup.
twitter did do tweet reactions as an a/b test right before the acquisition (late 2021), but never rolled it out to a big group of people (i wasn’t a part of rollout, i tinkered with feature flags lol)
had to dig for these screenshots, sorry that they’re low quality and wonky
I used Firefox mobile for that. The Android app doesn't let me select the gif.
I believe you have to choose the video button when uploading.
So I suspect it's just a matter of allowing gifs to be selected, and maybe treating gifs as videos even if uploaded as an "image"
Hey Sam! Bluesky is filled to the brim to artists and designers, do you think it'd be possible for us to have a few emoji slots that we can design and upload ourselves? Or even for us to hold community competitions for what gets added globally? Just sounds like fun (:
Give me picture uploads in private messages, group chats and for the love of god notifications when certain accounts skeet.
I humbly beg thee & the lords of bluesky for these features.
Can we do it with any emoji/unicode character, or are we limited to a hand-picked subset?
There's a few odd ones I want to react with that you wouldn't think of.
I'm sure it was already planned from the get-go, but it's nice to submit a feature request for something and see that it's actually in the pipeline for once. Thanks BlueSky!
