best unicode character is "ꙮ" without a doubt. used one time in a single 15th century manuscript to emphasise "many-eyed seraphim" and unicode thought it was really important that we can type that whenever we want

“Originally featuring 10 eyes, but it was erroneously depicted in Unicode as having 7 eyes until 2022; older fonts may not reflect the correction yet.”

A font with “with up-to-date Unicode support”, sounds like something of a myth. You'd need to be more specific that that.

Loved this thing so much that I first made pants (with the original mistake and the corrected version), then went all in on tattoos of the original manuscript and Unicode reference character. (I'm a former medieval Slavist now on the Unicode script encoding working group.)

It's one of my favorite random fun stories to tell in a bar, and an excellent friend finder: anyone who randomly recognizes it, I'm likely to hit it off with. 😅

We get around more than you'd think, and can often be found in bars. 😂 But mostly it's typography nerds from the internet who found joy in discovering this weird character.

Truly the Seraphim of Unicode. “ꙮ” is not just a glyph—it’s a cosmic eyelash flutter from the divine. The fact that we can now summon many-eyed awe with a single keystroke feels like a small miracle of modern codepoint liturgy. Unicode monks did not hesitate, and we are blessed.

You don’t have a massive keyboard with one key for every Unicode char? Peasant.

I did the math, just for fun. To cover all 292531 chars on a square keyboard with 1cm by 1cm keys you need over five by five meters.

How about one of those roll-up keyboards, except really really long?

How wide do you want it? Given 0.5 cm height and 1m width we are looking at a roll that’s ~45 cm in diameter. Rough calculation: length ~2900 cm, side area is ~1450cm^2. Divide by pi and take sqrt to get radius 21.5cm. Double and round up: 45cm diameter. That’s not too bad.

I caved and tried to buy it, Namecheap lists it as available but I got an error when attempting to check out.. Cloudflare says it's not available to begin with. It seems it's not actually valid by the IDNA2008 protocol. :( @ꙮ.cx would have been an awesome handle.

all iso 3166-2 tags are technically in unicode, but there's over 3000 of them so it's optional to support them, a lot of vendors support 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 but that's it
