I dislike how it starts to obscure screen space that was previously clear. As a design philosophy I heartily object to at least core apps having their easily accessed functionality dumbed down hiding the useful stuff under more taps. It looks dated (we moved away from skeuomorphic UI 10+ years back)
From a UX point of view it’s a massive backward step & is going to be needlessly disruptive to a lot of users who depend on Apples (fading?) reputation for good usability.
Apple have always, in the last couple of decades at least, sucked at big change. Apple is at its best when it iterates. Apple doesn’t innovate well. At all. That’s their strength - they let everyone else throw crap at the wall and watch to see what sticks then do it better. This is not better
I also have a crazy concept in my head where it looks more the Safari nav. The left item would be the app navigation, the right item would be New Post, and the center pill would be your current Feed. swipe up on it to change!
I bet I could get @pfrazee.com on board because he loves making browsers
i believe the rightmost placement is specifically for a search function given how it is presented on apples otherwise generic guidelines developer.apple.com/design/human... and how it expands on apps like the app store

(hasn’t watched the tutorial video, does not write or know react native) i am wondering if the whole “liquid glass buttons morph to form menus” expectation will cause problems with whatever mix of native and RN components will be used to do this
Is it just me or is the toolbar of the Bluesky mobile app too big?…
Might be another one of those things that makes people say "this app doesn't feel native" 🤔
the sequence of animations there is unhinged, and this thing is an accessibility nightmare (still hoping apple makes some significant changes before shipping public release)
Yes it’s cool!
But then what about older devices which don’t support iOS 26? Will you just stop support for those versions or have the current tab bar?
If you end up keeping it then why not have the option of both? (No idea how hard this would be)
