You can already do it - unpin the Discover feed and pin For You in its place. But you are probably asking why doesn't @bsky.app change the algorithm of Discover. If we get more people to try and use For You then it may get their attention.

still waiting for a day I can have a for you / discover that doesn’t have (overt) politics. I need separation or I get bitchy and unproductive. 😪

The "show less" functionality is coming to the For You feed once Bluesky supports that and you will be able to "lower the volume" of content that does not make you happy. For now though the best way to shape For You is by liking content that you want to see more of in the future.

I think it is good as long as it helps you find content worth your time. I think the big difference from AI driven algorithmic feeds is that For You uses a very simple and transparent algorithm which put you the end user in control. With your likes you determine what you get out of For You.

Compare to AI driven recommendation systems where the optimization objectives are determined by the system creator. For example, more time spent => more ad revenue. For You feed does not optimize for time spent.

totally get where you're coming from and respect the intentions. the notion of "for you feed does not optimize for time spent" is a noble one. i try not to be too 'old man vs cloud', i just like rev-chono cause there is always definitively An End to my experience, when i close bsky and move on

that said, your feed surfaced an old friend of mine that i didn't even know was on the platform - i see the value pretty immediately in that context! the notion of "addiction" in a positive light is what makes me... idk, uncertain?
