No, he's not reading the book for attention. Obviously he's peacocking here by holding the book using his left foot. The book itself is irrelevant because it's simply a stand-in for a childrearing tool. He's attempting to demonstrate his versatility to potential mates. That, or it's bad photoshop.

A recent dream I had pulled a book off the shelf in the library and was sitting in a comfortable chair reading it. 2 guys laughed, calling me pretentious. When asked why they said that I had written that book. I realized they were right and that I had donated the book to the library.
