can’t wait to do Helsinki to Tallinn entirely by HSR in 2040
EU high speed rail plans 10 3 82
thank you for the gifs kam
i love that the bit between barcelona and valencia is labelled as operational when it has significantly lower speeds than the HSR network, it does not use ECTS, it does not use 25kV AC, and it does not use standard gauge so it needs gauge convertible trains
Map of the railways between Barcelona and Valencia showing max speeds in different colours. The line operates at 160 to 200 km/h (green) while those to Madrid and France operate at 300km/h (red). The same map showing train control systems. ECTS (in blue), is used on the high speed lines to Madrid and France while the legacy system ASFA(in pink) is used between Tarragona and ValenciaThe same map showing railway electrification. High speed lines to Madrid and France use 25kv AC (in red), while the line between Tarragona and Valencia uses 3kv DC (in blue)The same map showing railway gauges, the high speed lines to Madrid and France use standard gauge (in black) while the line between Tarragona and Valencia uses iberian gauge (in yellow)

So it’s TEN-T i.e. an EU thing but all of Balkans is there, Norway is there and even a country whose name starts with Uk is there but UK is out 🤔

we are insanely shit at building high speed rail so it’s probably for the best

I know high speed rail is imperfect here compared to parts of Asia and that development is slower than people would like, but to me this map is still awesome and exciting. I'm a little confused by the sarcasm (and the pessimism in the replies). Am I missing something?
