in this release is a "download image" button in the top left corner of the image viewer on web. this lets you download as JPEG in high quality. webp haters rejoice!

v1.119 is live! Bot labels are here. If you run an automated account, you can now mark it as such in your account settings. The label will show up on your profile and posts so people know what's a bot and what's not.
A screenshot demonstrating how bot labels appear on profiles in the Bluesky app.

we're continuing to push towards increasing image quality, but turns out it's more of a death-by-a-thousands-cuts problem rather than pressing the "increase quality" button. we're working on it though, watch this space

I just wanted the scroll not to be automatic and for the focus not to jump to the latest post when refreshing the feed… it should stay where it was the last time I used it… that’s all. In the meantime, I’ll keep using Skeets. (Edited 17:18 via @skeetsapp.com)

This just downloads a RECOMPRESSED IMAGE in JPG format, not the original file. The reason WebP sucks is because it is always a recompressed image. Good job shooting yourself in the foot. What do we add to the end of the filename to make it load the ORIGINAL IMAGE? Without a lossy recompression?

i don't mind webp per se but the new compression is oddly smeary on pixel art pieces (and makes images significantly bigger than even uncompressed ones in many cases for that sort of content), previously one could work around the compression by scaling up by 800% and now there's no workaround :(

on the left, cropped webp as displayed to users, 24.7kb - on the right, uncompressed webp from photoshop, 16kb tbh what i would really like is the option to upload indexed PNGs or the like because those are really small, look great, are widely supported etc.

even lowest quality compressed webp looks massively better than what the CDN is serving to users (no smearing between the colour blocks, very close to original image) in this case, and that's just about 9kb. idk just feels like a big regression to me

Any chance of a fix on photo permissions for iOS? I put in a ticket last year. You can't upload images with "none" photo access despite Bsky using private access (like X) so it can access them. Setting it to "limited access" shows it uses private access, so unsure why Bsky needs photo access?

Sorry it's kind of hard to explain. Basically the iOS permission settings should read like X with "private access" and "add photos only" -- no limited or full access options.

Was it an intentional choice to re-encode it to JPEG rather than serving the file as-is from the pds?
