exciting news: we'll be rolling out the New Architecture version of the app over the course of the next 7 days, starting with Android. look forward to your app being smoother and more performant 🏎️💨

"new architecture" if you're unaware - this app is built with React Native, and recently the RN team basically rebuilt React Native from scratch to make it faster and correct-er. result should be this app is faster, especially on low-end Android devices

fwiw it’s been in the works for way longer, maybe from around 2018..

Yeah it was around earlier if you wanted to be cutting edge. Snarky in a loving way, no way you wanted to actually use it in production at that point.

I'm excited to try this based on what I've heard (but I'm iOS so less of a important person to onboard)

Updated to stable 1.129.0 from the apk. Still getting rough performance when scrolling profiles, swiping feeds, header fading in/out, and on the post composer screen. Bars to show UI rendering times.

it’ll continue to get better, once this is out we can move on to the latest version of Reanimated

Nice, everything else has been pretty solid so far

And the video upload is still insanely bad apparently...

I have version 1.128.0 and seeing bugs swiping between tabs. Is that a known issue? This looks like a big issue to me

What kind of bugs? I've seen jitter when swiping between feed tabs as well as unwanted interactions (links and posts opening). The latter tends to happen if I leave the app in the background for some time, come back, and swipe between feeds.

awesome, I had to turn it off because running the apk from github made android no longer let the app handle bluesky links 😞

fwiw you can explicitly enable domains that aren't auto verified in android settings.
Screenshot of a mobile settings screen titled "Open by default" for the app cope.works, which allows the user to choose how to open web links. Options include "In the app" and "In your browser," followed by a list of non-verified links: deer.social, bsky.app, and witchsky.app, with an option to "Add link." 1 8

If that ever happens again (with any app), you may need to manually add the types of links that will open in the app (this is the same RC app fyi)

Ah, so *that's* why Bluesky on my phone has been showing this weird “new arch” thing on top of the logo for the last few days.
The top of the Bluesky app, except there's a bubble that says “new arch” on top of the butterfly for previously-unknown-but-now-comprehensible reasons. 2

You say this... Any performance improvements that lead to less battery drain and less device heating with excessive Bluesky app use? 🤔
