Old. Weird. Not necessarily bad in the places where it looks different to modern new stuff. I could be wrong but I think everyone involved is a consenting adult.

Dare I ask what other "traditions" of overt, unapologetic racial discrimination in hiring are still in place in the British armed forces? Or whether there are any remaining official military jobs with titles that include the word "servant"?

Okay can you confirm that it is also October of 2023 on your side of the wormhole and this isn't like some 'Star Trek' episode where they only belatedly realize they're talking across a time gap of a few decades?

I'm just imagining the British military leadership like they're Mr. Burns from The Simpsons when he finally (in the 1990s) dusts off the old stock ticker is devastated by news of the Crash of '29.

I wondered the same. Like, who cooks the food on their ships? Is that something traditionally done by Indians?

It makes me wonder what other racist stereotypes they used to organize their ships. “Of course we have the Filipinos mop the decks, because you know, they are Filipinos after all.” Then they all have a good laugh.

Imagining a elderly Asian man of Chinese descent pleading: please, I have served the crown my entire life, does that not prove my loyalty? - and a bloke with bad teeth and BO replying: oi it’s a king now innit? So go on git!

I cannot decide if I'm more disturbed by the stupidity of firing them now or by the blatant racism of having that kind of "tradition"
