HN has so many boomers I swear to god, one comment being like “well I never got invited to join I guess I’m not in the cool club” and signups have been open for a while now…

To be fair, the comments are almost entirely defending Bluesky now, probably in no small part thanks to a long reply by an employee rising to the top. The only thing they like better than boomin’ is criticizing the linked article lol

When we presented Elk, instead of being happy about another client in dev for Mastodon, some folks were outraged that we were using Discord for the community instead of Matrix. I love Matrix, and I'm rooting for them, but we had other servers there. There is now way to win with some people.

I just finished reading that post and omg how delusional is the author? The hand wavy accusation about blockchain capital also makes me laugh As for the “theoretically you can move instances but it’s a placeholder”, hi from my own PDS!!

Depending on how you define it, even the Internet isn't decentralized. After all, we don't have tens of thousands of root name servers. And any given person only has one ISP they use predominantly. So probably helps if people figure out what they mean with the words they use. :)
