yes. I mean in previous elections there's been insane queues etc in some places so it can be quite a time-consuming activity to vote in person that is legitimately impossible for people who have to work
In the last election here, people in one neighborhood waited until 2-3am in a queue to vote, even though voting hours technically ended at 9pm (but you could vote if you were in the queue by then) 😅
With eletronic voting machines I've never ever had to wait more than 5 minutes to vote. In the election this last Sunday I arrived, they checked my document, took a biometric fingerprint, I voted, and I left the room in less than 2 min.
It was a super important election, because it was a matter of whether we defeat the right-wing govt after 8 years and start fixing things, or they win once again and become entrenched even more… and this was in a big city and people there voting at night were mostly young, so almost all center/left.
It could have possibly ended up with a couple of MPs difference, so every vote mattered in a way. But they had fun there, some local company was delivering pizza etc. :D
Ooh that’s nice actually, not too bad
in my head it’s just pushing, shoving, shouting …. in a big city at least
America sounds pretty scary during election time.. especially swing states, imagine conflicts between ppl..
Living in a swing state is hell. I've gotten 14 political texts today. There was a bus with trumps face on it sitting outside of my work all shift. Any media I try to consume is covered in political ads. I genuinely can't get away from it besides sitting at home and reading a book.
This is why all these fascist leaders want to make life easy and get rid of democracy and just take over... No one needs to worry about skipping or missing work.
