excited for this, we send a huge amount of traffic to other websites since we don't suppress links - yet the bulk of it was previously unattributed! now we can take credit for it :)

just a fact of life, all websites are penalised equally by uBlock so at least it’s a level playing field now

❤️ Are you doing this uniquely per instance of posted link? Possible revenue stream in the future for selling that data. Publishers would certainly lap up an analytics API for the right price (free, or close to free 😅).

No reason you couldn't be logging this elsewhere though, you know from analytics which is being clocked on, and you know from server logging how much traffic is going through to various domains. Totally get that right now it doesn't look to be built to do this though.

not the same, we want Bluesky to show up in other people's analytics dashboards. the bulk of our traffic used to come through as unattributed

Totally, and appreciate that because now we are seeing a bunch of presumably mobile app traffic we didn't see before. Question would be are you intending to be learning anything from this about where traffic is going from Bluesky at scale? As imo that's a future product opportunity.

ah right yeah, definitely something we could do in the future. can't comment on any plans tho

we have to link out to a dead simple link proxy (a la t.co) in order to convince the browser to add the referer header. simply opening a link from the app doesn't do it

please don't do this, use a client mod such as ublock origin instead. it has a setting to switch off the bsky redirect

Is this the appview or the app setting referrer? if app what would be the recommendation for third party apps?
