the “via” field is a strongRef to a repost through. and its present both on likes and reposts

not a top requested feature but here’s the thing - currently reposting something feels super lame, because you don’t get any feedback. if you repost something good and all your friends like it via your repost, it would be super satisfying! I’m hoping it will encourage “curator” type accounts

I think it would be fun to “get in on the ground floor” of a popular post and receive all the feedback for your refined curatorial taste

hoping there will at least be some sort of toggleable filter for this; i recognize everyone's tastes will be different, but personally this was one of the things i disliked the most about twitter's notif system

Tbh that exact lack of feedback has encouraged me to, just, repost and share stuff without feeling the need to be "rewarded" for it. I now repost things for the sake of reposting and sharing, not because I can pretend to be responsible for gathering likes on someone else's posts.

It's a good option to have, of course, but I feel like exactly the lack of this kind of feedback has led to better social media habits in my case. Account post notifications & notif filtering will be very welcome additions, too!

"currently reposting something feels super lame" so you're going to remove the repost feature? no? also "lame" in this fashion is ableist

Please do not encourage the "curator" accounts when people already curate currently. It feels nice that people organically share things or personally create works they like. It sucks when people optimize reposts for the dopamine of a noisy inbox This is not a lame feeling, it's a calm feeling

The idea that the feedback for simply reposting someone else's work is for the user's benefit seems really silly. This is only beneficial for the platform's growth at the expense of the user's relationship with said platform A user needing notification dopamine doesn't create good curators!

I’ve been looking at the existing curator accounts on the graph I’m building! They tend not to get a lot of engagement unless they follow-farm pretty heavily or are otherwise well known The kind of growth they need, if that’s what you want to encourage… is “following classic” for organic discovery

a lot of them also do mass bot-liking to try to get more engagement as well. Both of these patterns point to organic discovery being a big issue - and I’ve heard similar from creators that it can be harder to promote.

noooo please don't clutter the page with this junk! or at least allow people to control what counts as a notification (am aware of the all/mention tabs, but 'mentions' excludes things like 'your secret crush and 4 others followed you', doesn't persist, and doesn't affect the notification badge)

can’t be soon after merging like notification counts* and these settings should be in the same update as repost likes *10 people liking my reply should be 1 notification or 0, not 10

Will there be an option to turn it off? i can see how some might want it but i personally would like to avoid the notif spam

Yeah I hope this is partly groundwork for more modular notification settings which would be a big boost for the site imo.

Do you guys have any plans for poll posts? Please, if you do, make the *default* behavior "Allow Multiple Selections" (approval voting), and have an option for scoring each choice 0-10 (score voting).

Can we have a toggle to deactivate them? Besides the obvious, this is the part I hated the most about the birdsite.
ELIZE
It seems like the poll post plans are getting a mixed reaction! Would you rather have a say in the default behavior or keep it simple? 🤔

👀 Any idea what the overhead looks like graph-wide? Percentage increase in overall notifs, etc? Seems as if likes could get a bit more bulky on the firehose too?
