A scene from The Simpsons with Homer talking to a woman at a counter in the top half, and Homer standing in a street full of signs in the bottom half. The text reads: "Would you like to download this image as a .webp? It's got better compression and image quality!" In the bottom half, signs say: "WE DON'T TAKE WEBP UPLOAD," "WE DON'T TAKE WEBP UPLOADS," "NO WEBP," "ERROR: .WEBP is not a recognized image format," "CAN'T OPEN WEBP," "NO webp," and "not compatible with .webp."

hilarious but also, webp is 16 years old by now. what doesn’t support it at this point? is this actually an impediment or just a cultural meme?

i stole this from someone else tbh. But, I think the last time I previously tried to upload a webp that didn't work it was on here prior to the update. Do .heic files work here too now? That was my other major impediment.

My dude, it's a serious impediment. Upload forms don't accept it. Lots of OSes can't open it. Confuses the normies who have no idea what it is. It's a real bad idea the moment you get even a little bit out of the realm of people who only think about webdev all day.

It is an actual impediment.
