what is the mime type of an atproto record? maybe application/atproto+app.bsky.feed.post

thinking about <link rel=alternate type=application/atproto+site.standard.document href=“…”>…

maybe it’s just application/atproto+json and you just get the type from the aturi, that’s what it’s there for

sure but it’s an aturi so an app that doesn’t know about atproto wouldn’t be able to do anything with it anyway

i am all application/json! pretty sure the at:// in the href will do what we need here. there is a reason we don't encounter these funky +json mime types ubiquitously as everyday devs. the interop story there is not as friendly as one might expect!

Yea, baking in the type seems extraneous. Of course now you also need a blob mime type, as those don't have types :)

i was going to say cbor but the pds does return json and we dont rly use cbor past bulk records (car file, firehose) to my knowledge

Look brother I've been trying to find a way out of "we don't need mime types" in the IPFS world since before Bsky and I'm just tired

Currently I'd vote for keeping it typed to JSON Otherwise, some food for thought: - "It's just JSON, stupid" theme gets pushed hard by atproto - how opaque is this type? - does this type have meaning outside atproto? - how well formed and stable is this type?

Along those lines… Atproto records can be encoded a few different ways - JSON, DRISL. I would want a mime type to give me some hint as to the current encoding.

yeah but aturis don’t work like that tho (which is what I’d imagine href would be)

Please don't make content negotiation a thing in atproto. Requiring it is one reason ActivityPub is hard work, especially for static serving
