i’m really excited to ship fabric. been using it today and scrolling my tl is buttery smooth. videos feel a lot better. things Just Work. really impressive stuff
Zed people (Zedders?) how can I make it so `#/components/Typography` is always the first option, `react-native` is the second, and never suggest reanimated internals
anti-climactic = good, to be clear. your reaction to being on a different appview should be “wait, what changed? it seems to be exactly the same in every single way?”
react-native-windows/macos is insanely goated. it’s like if you took the best parts of electron (getting to write code in typescript, the best language) and removed the worst part (the web browser)
I learned recently that the reason Microsoft maintains react-native-macos is for Office - obviously, those are multi-platform apps! might as well use React Native
🙌 SDK 53 is out now!
It's a chunky release so take your time combing through the post below. Couple highlights:
◆ The New Arch is now default everywhere
◆ Edge-to-edge is default for all android projects
◆ expo-background-task (no more background-fetch)
◆ expo-maps alpha!
expo.dev/changelog/sd...
hype: we're finally able to get this working. downside: we have to upgrade basically all our dependencies in the process, so this release might take a hot minute
— POSTS DELETED —
It appears I was using a region-locked version of the Forbes app and most likely not the one referred to in the showcase. I have deleted the post criticising the app, since I don’t think it was necessarily KMP
anyway in conclusion, seems like KMP is a reasonable but not super ambitious tool for sharing non-UI Kotlin code between platforms. Compose MP is the actual RN competitor, but is too early to really dunk on and has not got much adoption yet. thread over, goodnight!
