what's hot
3 8Wait so there is still a bsky-hosted What's Hot feed? I thought they replaced that with Discover
3 6oh it's the same feed, they just renamed it but I will never acknoledge the new name
1 3But the new one is personalized somehow, with things mixed in based on your likes or follows or something, right? So in logged out mode they use the same algo and just disable the personalized parts?
1 3I assume so?
2 1It might be customized to a particular DID, would be fun if somebody could figure out the details
1 2it definitely is, you get an auth token that you can decode to get the DID. there's instructions in the feed gen template repo
1 1I mean that open one. Is the public feed just unauthed or custom to a specific feed? Like, could they show different things to a brand new user with no customization vs somebody logged out?
1 2the open one is just the Discover feed yeah
2 1you'd be able to tell apart an unauthed user, because they wouldn't send a token
Lol I think I found some kind of bsky test account π bsky.app/profile/did:...
Discover/WhatsHot is hosted at discover.bsky.social, which also hosts this account's two feeds π discover.bsky.social/xrpc/app.bsk...
1 3Also, I follow @jaz.bsky.social's What's Hot feed, which I think is a fork of the old pre-Discover What's Hot, and it has very different kind of content π€ WH has mostly popular posts about today's events/meme/drama, and Discover is much more random
1It's strange, the whats-hot here doesn't seem to include any kind of personalization, but I'm definitely seeing personalized results in Discover - I have an impression that what's running at discover.bsky.social is not actually this but sth else, which is not in the repo: github.com/bluesky-soci...
https://github.com/bluesky-social/atproto/blob/main/packages/bsky/src/feed-gen/whats-hot.ts
github.com
Also that file is not exported from here: github.com/bluesky-soci...
3Ah cool, makes sense, tnx.
