let me guess
- not high contrast enough
- no scrub controls
3 8ooh yes (consider a border for contrast too) but also no subtitle/caption button, consider hiding buttons for unreleased features, consider a PiP button, and move the progress off the edge if you can (like how twitter/youtube do it)
but like... pretty cool π
3 6This is definitely better Sam.
Nice going
2ah yeah we'll have captions. PiP is a bit out of scope. and I'll move the progress up once scrubbing is implemented (otherwise people will try and click on it and be disappointed)
3 1 6I always thought PiP was just a browser feature than site. (At least on firefox I can do it for any video)
1 1it's a default-on setting - but for bsky (and similar apps where you expect a user doing multiple things), there's a surprising (well...) amount of nuance
1 1Makes sense. I think xitter also xitted it when scrolling through timeline.
1I wonder if the PiP could already be available with Firefox, Opera & Vivaldi since all three embark a quite good PiP player that can work with pretty much every video player.
Would love to test :p
1 1you have to choose to implement - developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/W... - but it's not a tricky API, but like... in a timeline what do you do? Do you pause when scrolling, etc. etc.
2 4yeah problem comes when you scroll the original post out of view. things could get weird
1 3someone sends me a DM with an embedded vid, hit play, click PiP, back to main timeline (what happens?), see another video, press play on it (what happens to PiP?), etc. etc.
we should make apps that only do one thing at once
1 2I tried with Vivaldi's PiP on a YT video in a BSKY post and, as soon as the post disappeared, the PiP closed and the video stopped.
1I often use PiP when I'm writing or reading, even with shorter videos so my TL stays where it is with the video and I check other tabs.
1 1(there are some extensions that force it - chromewebstore.google.com/detail/force... - I don't use them anymore and they're a bit janky, but worked for the 'I just want an overlay and don't care about the app' scenario)
And if there's a subtitle/caption button, make it the same placement as the alt text button for images, @samuel.bsky.team
1Picture too blurry
2 6Testing out 1.5mbps 720p for the "high res" streams and something like 750kbps 360p for the non-maximized streams rn.
I think it's so blurry in the image because it's a screenshot of the player in the TL and not maximized so it's just stretching a small number of cropped pixels.
1 5Corners too round.
1 4On mobile apps I'm used to having the pause/play button be centered in the window.
1 1I like the slightly rounded box
